How We Do It
Providing properties which meet our tenants needs
We
work in a person-centred way to make sure the properties and services
meet the needs of our tenants. We start with a housing assessment which
involves talking to the tenant and all groups involved in supporting them.
We can then build a profile of the type of property, location, size and any special requirements. We make sure that the tenant and all supporting groups are involved from this point. This includes viewing short listed properties and having choice in the decoration and furnishing of their new home.
Tenants Rights and Responsibilities
A great deal of time and care is spent with the tenant to explain the rights and responsibilities of being a tenant.
The explanation of the tenancy agreement often begins in advance of the tenancy starting; the agreement is explained in full during the tenancy sign up process using a pictorial version.
Understanding and explanation of the tenancy agreement is constantly re-visited once the tenancy commences through regular visits by the Housing Manager. Similarly, a great deal of time and care is spent to ensure that the tenant can afford their housing costs, which are usually met through Housing Benefit.
Our tenants are encouraged to use the services of an advocate in these processes.
